Rate Lock

A rate lock is an agreement between borrower and lender that freezes a specific interest rate and point structure for a specified timeframe, typically 30, 45, or 60 days, protecting the borrower against market fluctuations during underwriting. Rate locks are generally executed once a purchase agreement on a specific property is ratified and remain valid through the agreed expiration date.
