Earnest Money Deposit
An Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) is an upfront financial commitment submitted by a buyer when an offer to purchase real estate is accepted. Held safely in an independent escrow or title company account, this deposit proves the buyer’s good faith during the inspection and appraisal contingencies. At final closing, 100% of the earnest money deposit is credited directly toward the buyer’s cash-to-close obligations.
